Designer Says Celebrities Should Buy Their Own Stuff, Gifts Moss Anyway
Posted by Robin Paulson Categories: Celebrities, Fashion Designers, News,
Normally, fashion designers -- both large houses and small boutiques -- are practically throwing clothes and accessories at celebrities. For jewelry designer Lara Bohinc, however, this is not the case.
When one particular supermodel asked for one of her pieces, Bohinc -- whose customers include Samantha Cameron and Michelle Obama -- was hesitant: "Kate Moss asked for a belt once, so I gave it to her, but I had to say, 'Are you sure she’ll be wearing it?' I didn’t want to see it on her Filipina maid. I think celebrities should buy their own jewelry. I don’t send stuff to anyone."
While I give her kudos for believing that celebrities should purchase their own stuff (they of all people surely can afford it!), perhaps she ought to have followed her own advice and made Moss buy the belt instead of taking a stab at celebrities who gift items to their friends and employees (did she have to express such contempt for the thought of seeing her jewelry on Moss' "Filipina maid"?).

David Beckham to Design Long Johns
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Celebrities, Fashion Designers, Men,
David Beckham is taking a design cue from his wife Victoria -- sort of. Beckham is set to launch a line of... long johns!
The soccer heartthrob - who signed a deal to create his own collection of underwear earlier this year after starring in an advertising campaign for Emporio Armani men's briefs - wants to give the old fashioned items a makeover when he launches the range in February 2012.
"I sometimes wear them to go to sleep. They're very cool."
David - who is currently playing for Los Angeles Galaxy - is reportedly being backed in his plans by his manager Simon Fuller and fashion designer Stella McCartney's husband Alasdhair Willis.
He also wants Victoria to be heavily involved in the project: "The underwear is totally my design, things that I like to wear."
Beyonce Knowles Compliments Her Models
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Celebrities, Fashion Designers, Fashion Shows, Models,
Beyonce Knowles made sure to compliment every one of the models during her House of Dereon show during London Fashion Week.
The singer-and-actress - who is expecting her first child with husband Jay-Z - and her mother Tina unveiled their collection at exclusive store Selfridges on Saturday, and the models admit she was a pleasure to work for.
"The show was all about power and attitude and having fun which made me really excited as many shows only want models to display the clothes. When Beyonce came in, she complimented all of us. I told her how beautiful her collection was and how I really loved the feather accessory from my first look. Then I bent forward and tickled the feather on her face - haha! She was lovely and was glowing, an image of pregnant perfection," said Leomie Anderson.
Malaika Firth added, "Walking for Beyonce's House of Deron was possibly the best experience of my life yet alone my career. I never knew that I'd get the chance to work with her and I was so excited when she came backstage to talk to all of us!"
Supermodel Naomi Campbell thinks it is important to "remember her roots."
The British native is the focus of her new documentary about her life as part of the CNBC Meets series, and in the show she explains how her upbringing in London helped to inspire her charity work.
"I've really enjoyed working with Tania on this show, and I'm looking forward to seeing the finished show. For me, it's really important to remember my roots and experiences growing up - it's those things that make you the person that you are. London will always be home to me, and it was so much fun to take a walk down memory lane and visit the house I grew up in."
Also in the documentary, Naomi talks about breaking barriers in fashion and her attempts to break down barriers for other black women, and there are also contributions from her mentor, legendary producer Quincy Jones and Duran Duran stars Simon Le Bon and Nick Rhodes.
Dolce & Gabbana to Fold D&G
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Fashion Designers, Fashion Shows, News,
Dolce & Gabbana is folding its D&G line. The Italian fashion house - made of designer duo Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana - have decided to end the brand to concentrate on their signature Dolce & Gabbana line.
In a statement, they said the move would give "even more strength and energy to our collections." It means yesterday's D&G show at Milan Fashion Week was the last for the range, and the company will be incorporating the D&G line into its signature line.
D&G is a slightly more casual line and is the younger, more flamboyant line of the brand. Unlike Dolce & Gabbana, D&G sells watches as well as clothing. While they are getting rid of the D&G line, Domenico and Stefano recently revealed they are embracing technology and selling their collections on the internet as they want to give everyone the chance to buy their designs.
"It's a retail channel we are very interested in, because it gives everybody the chance to experiment with the Dolce & Gabbana world. You don't have to live in a big city - you just have to own a computer," Domenico said. "Luxury is not a static concept, but it shapes and changes with society. Now somebody who might not have the time to come to one of our boutiques can shop online," Stefano added.

Fashion Police: Katie Holmes’ Earthy Androgyny
Posted by Robin Paulson Categories: Celebrities, Fashion Designers,
From the looks of a recent outing with her daughter Suri, Katie Holmes has been perusing the men's sections of clothing stores lately.
Even though floral prints aren't usually found in the actress-turned-fashion designer's wardrobe, this masculine attire isn't exactly pulling off the androgynous look like Tilda Swinton can. The jeans are okay, but the somewhat see-through shoes and clashing stripes and squares aren't doing it for me.
Is Katie simply chic or simply faux pas?

Elizabeth Olsen Looks to Diane Keaton, Katherine Hepburn for Style
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Celebrities,
Actress Elizabeth Olsen's style icons are Diane Keaton and Katherine Hepburn. The 22-year-old - whose sisters Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen run their own successful fashion empire - sometimes gets advice from her fashionable siblings, but admitted her inspiration comes from the stars who are known for their tailored style.
"I always love Diane Keaton and Katherine Hepburn. "[Mary-Kate and Ashley always tell me] to always feel comfortable. Their advice is just like, kind of focus on your work and not let anything else come between you and what you want to do and who you are. We don't actually talk about work much, but they're just great people and supportive and inspiring and creative."
Although Elizabeth loves shopping, she admitted she sometimes finds it a chore and often gives unwanted clothes away: "I like shopping, but I have to be in a mood. I'm very lazy, I never return anything. I usually try to find someone else who's going to want it."
